River

The River is composed of quartzite and granite. Stainless steel bands delineate its latitude and longitude. It is inlaid in the floor of the entrance hall and, depending on the viewer, may evoke a bathymetric map of the water depths, or an ice pack that is beginning to melt. The River is suggestive of both Canadian and German waterways.

The chosen materials and colors emanate an almost dark aura that may recall the "ghost frontier" and the recent history of the place where the embassy is located today.
